LSK Short Bios
James Levin, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Graduate
School of Education, Director of Advising for the Eberly College of Science at Penn
State University and an educational consultant. Dr. Levin has consulted with hundreds
of school districts, alternative schools and treatment centers nationwide on the
management of disruptive behavior and effective instruction. He is a nationally
recognized expert in methods of influencing appropriate behavior, motivation, and
self-esteem. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on classroom management,
effective instruction, self-esteem, and motivation.
Dr. Levin is co-author of the books The Principles of
Classroom Management: A Professional Decision Making-Model and The
Self-Control Classroom: Understanding and Managing the Disruptive Behavior
of All Students Including Students with ADHD. In addition, he
has published numerous articles on classroom management and effective
instruction.
Dr. Levin's dynamic presentation style makes him a sought
after speaker. He previously taught mathematics and science at the
secondary level in inner city, suburban, and residential schools for
disruptive youth.
John Shanken-Kaye, Ph.D., is a PA licensed
psychologist and educational consultant in private practice in Doylestown,
PA. He has for many years worked effectively with children, adolescents,
their families, and teachers. Dr. Shanken-Kaye is a nationally recognized
expert in methods of influencing appropriate behavior, motivation, and
self-esteem. A Diplomate in Forensic Psychology and Counseling (ABPS, AAFC),
he is a therapist for the Bucks County Juvenile Court, as well as a
consultant to many school districts, alternative schools and treatment
centers on the topics of behavior management, treatment of Oppositional-Defiant
Disorder, Conduct Disorder and ADHD.
Dr. Shanken-Kaye is co-author, with Dr. James Levin, of the
book The Self-Control Classroom: Understanding and Managing the
Disruptive Behavior of All Students Including Students with
ADHD. He brings a new understanding to the behavioral and emotional
difficulties of all children, adolescents, and adults.
A sought after speaker, Dr. Shanken-Kaye has provided
inservice education across the country to thousands of teachers and
parents on the topics of classroom management, the causes of disruption,
violent
and delinquent behavior, effective parenting, self-esteem and
motivation.
